Stopping the illegal arrests and human rights violations faced by minority groups in Somalia is a critical part of advocating for justice and equality. The illegal detention, often based on ethnic or clan identity, can have devastating consequences for individuals and communities. To help end this practice and protect the rights of marginalized groups is what SAJEM strives:

Clan based 4.5 System elecion is around the corner

As we rise to the moment, SAJEM is committed to bolstering efforts for our communities to be well-versed in their rights in the face of explicit ethnophobia and tribalism influencing Somalia’s political and social laws and justice. SAJEM has consistently called out the many ways in which our Somali government has failed marginalized communities in the country. We have advocated on the global stage by standing firm in our solidarity with global minority rights groups for justice and equality. We have exposed the ways in which the Somali government abuses the unjust political power-sharing policy 4.5 and how the current government continuously pushes its unjust policies.

This work must continue, and we pledge to keep doing it! However, it is work we cannot do alone. Now more than ever, there is a deep need for coalition building across organizations and within our communities. Now is the time to provide and sharpen the tools needed, such as civic education and involvement, historical grounding, and mobilization tactics.
